México / Perú
Geo Gerstein is a costume designer for film, based in Mexico City and originally from Lima, Peru. Her approach treats costume as an integral part of a character's visual and emotional construction, working through materiality, texture, and the relationship between body, space, and image. She accompanies the conceptual development process from script to the final construction of the character on screen, in dialogue with direction, cinematography, and space.
She trained in Costume Design at the Escuela de Cinematografía y del Audiovisual de Madrid (ECAM), in Audiovisual Communication at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, and in Costume Design at the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión de San Antonio de los Baños (EICTV) in Cuba.
She has worked as Costume Designer and as part of the costume team on national and international film productions, collaborating with directors such as Celso R. García, Claudia González Rubio, Javier Fuentes-León, Hari Sama, and Viggo Mortensen, and with costume designers such as Gabriela Fernández, Kirsten Hargroder, and Anne Dixon.
Her recent projects as Costume Designer include EL Club del pie izquierdo, directed by Celso R. García. She has also been part of the costume team on international productions such as Pussy Island, directed by Zoë Kravitz, and The Dead Don't Hurt, directed by Viggo Mortensen.
Alongside her professional practice, she develops the workshop Building Character Through Costume, focused on costume as a narrative tool within cinematic language, taught at the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC).
